Microstructure as a key parameter for understanding chloride ingress in alkali-activated mortars

چکیده
This study aims to evaluate the influence of microstructural properties on chloride diffusion resistance alkali-activated materials (AAMs) based blast furnace slag and/or fly ash, with variable activator doses (represented as Na 2 O%). Resistance penetration was tested using accelerated (NT BUILD 443) and migration 492) tests. Addition mortars mainly ash reduced porosity permeability. Chloride decreased increasing O%, but pore structure did not follow same trend. The threshold ( d th ) critical radius r crit determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry had a good correlation coefficient. Both quantification reaction products between surface area indicated that physical adsorption C-A-S-H/N-A-S-H gel surfaces predominated over chemical binding.

The Interfacial Transition Zone in Alkali-Activated Slag Mortars
The interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is known to strongly influence the mechanical and transport properties of mortars and concretes. This paper studies the ITZ between siliceous (quartz) aggregates and alkali-activated slag (AAS) binders in the context of mortar specimens. Backscattered electron (BSE) images generated in an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) are used to identif...

متن کاملA comprehensive probabilistic model of chloride ingress in unsaturated concrete
Corrosion induced by chloride ions becomes a critical issue for many reinforced concrete structures. The chloride ingress into concrete has been usually simplified as a di↵usion problem where the chloride concentration throughout concrete is estimated analytically. However, this simplified approach has several limitations. For instance, it does not consider chloride ingress by convection which ...
